OY6 Aviators – Navy

What we now collectively refer to as “Aviators” were first developed in 1941 by American Optical for U.S. Navy pilots and sailors. While designed for utility and comfort, they featured a number of innovations including teardrop-shaped convex lenses to accommodate pilots who were constantly looking down at their instrument panel during flight.
