Since joining the Virginia Beach Fire Department in 2002, James Templeton has dedicated his career to saving lives and preparing others to do the same. As a Heavy Equipment and Rigging Specialist with Virginia Task Force 2, he helps rescue victims trapped in collapsed structures during major disasters.
Beyond the front lines, Templeton has volunteered thousands of hours designing and building rescue training props and collapse simulators that help firefighters train for real-world emergencies. His contributions have helped make Virginia Beach's training center a premier destination for technical rescue training.
In recognition of his leadership, technical expertise, and commitment to the fire service, Templeton received the 2025 Virginia Governor's Fire Service Award for Excellence in Career Fire Services.
