Ride Allegheny was born in the shadow of 9/11. Six Gaithersburg neighbors set out in October 2001 on a postponed bike trip from Pittsburgh, never imagining it would spark a movement. Four years later, the ride found its true purpose when it partnered with Operation Second Chance, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting wounded veterans recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and beyond.
Since then, Ride Allegheny has grown into a multi-day cycling event from the steel city of Pittsburgh to the steps of the nation’s capital, a powerful ride of grit, unity, and purpose.
What began as a neighborhood adventure has become a mission-driven tradition. Together, riders, volunteers, and supporters have raised over $2 million—with 90% directly fueling recovery, transition, and hope for wounded warriors.
Ride Allegheny isn’t just a ride—it’s a legacy of resilience, service, and honor.
