Navy veteran Cale Foy has built his career around service—both in uniform and in his community. As a naval aircrewman and rescue swimmer, he trained for emergencies at sea, never knowing when his skills would be called upon outside of duty. That moment came in May 2021, when a boat carrying more than 30 migrants capsized off the coast of San Diego.
Though off duty, Foy immediately rushed to the scene. Braving dangerous surf and strong currents, he entered the water alongside local first responders to help survivors reach safety. His quick action and calm under pressure saved lives during one of the region’s deadliest maritime accidents.
For his courage and selflessness, Foy was recognized as the 2022 Navy Service Member of the Year. Yet he remains humble, crediting his training and teamwork over personal recognition.
Today, Cale Foy continues to serve as a role model for resilience and compassion. His story is a reminder that the call to duty doesn’t end when the uniform comes off—and that ordinary moments can demand extraordinary heroism.
